Apprentices assist our stylists on four days per week and attend class in the Berkeley salon on every Monday. While assisting, apprentice duties include cleaning (laundry, dishes, sweeping, etc.), stocking product, shampooing, blow-drying, welcoming and prepping clients for services and observing our stylists in order to constantly continue the education process.
On class day, apprentices are given the opportunity to perfect their technical and customer service skills by scheduling models for appointments. You as an apprentice will be responsible for providing your own models for class. Your progress through our 1.5-2 year program depends on your ability to book appropriate models and learn our techniques. All students receive training in both cut and color. To complete the program, you must make your way through each level by demonstrating your technical and customer service skills with models. As you progress through the program you will be able to schedule more model appointments on other days in addition to Mondays - what we refer to as their Advanced Apprentice days Ultimately, once you have passed all the levels, you will be given the opportunity to cut and color as a Junior Stylist and then full Stylist at Festoon.
Festoon expects each graduate of the apprenticeship program to stay as a stylist at our salons. Stylists are expected to do both color and cut and to work full time for at least three years. Each apprentice and stylist must work in both locations. Stylists at Festoon enjoy an environment of inspiration, creativity, fun, and support from the front desk, assistants, management and ownership.
Festoon believes that in order to provide excellent service a stylist must have a strong foundation in cutting, coloring, and product knowledge. To become a Festoon stylist you must have outstanding technical skills and a passion for continuing education. We provide education in house as well as support travel to the best academies. Our stylists train at Bumble and bumble, Vidal Sassoon and L’Oreal on an annual basis. In addition to this supportive learning environment, stylists at Festoon enjoy an environment of inspiration, creativity, fun, and support from the front desk, assistants, management and ownership. We are a commission based salon and provide the following benefits to full time stylists: paid educational trips, paid time off, health insurance, dental insurance, and a retirement plan.
*We require that all applicants have supervisory and customer service experience.
Our educators are not only responsible for teaching our apprentices in the classroom, but also to assess, support, and inspire our students on a daily basis. All of our educators are also employed as stylists and as such are expected to be the ultimate role models. Educators must be passionate about learning and continue their pursuit of advanced education annually. Additionally the educators in our salon are an integral part of the leadership team. As team members they are relied upon to help steer the future of Festoon.
Our salon coordinators are responsible for making sure that everything in the salon runs smoothly. This includes answering phone calls, scheduling appointments on the computer, keeping the salon clean and tidy, assisting clients with retail, and most importantly making our clients feel welcome. Very often you are doing all of these at the same time so you must be a professional multi-tasker. You must be computer savvy and available to work one weekend day and some evenings.
