Thank you so much for being the best salon in the Bay Area (I looked for years, trust me) and thank you Kristal for making my hair ROCK OUT last night!!! I’m sending you guys some pics. Everyone loved my hair. There were hairstylists there from a lot of San Francisco Salons and they were all feeling it! So thank you! It was awesome! It is now the day after and I look like a porcupine that has been electrocuted (my usual look) but I can’t help but look back on the pictures and the one night I looked like a lady. ;)

What makes Festoon special is that you can count on a hair style that is uniquely tailored to flatter your features. It’s definitely not a cookie-cutter approach to hair cuts like so many other places. They have the artistic sensibility I have always been looking for. I lived in Europe for a couple of years and generally got the best hair cuts ever; they approached hair cutting as an art. When I came back to the Bay Area I tried out many places to find the same level of quality and attention. I found this at Festoon. Their hairstylists are remarkably consistent. I would trust my hair with any one there. For me, Festoon is my HAIR SALON FOR LIFE!

I just wanted to let you know that I couldn’t be happier with my New Haircut… and New Stylist! Kim was AWESOME! She patiently listened to the last ‘traumatic’ experience with a new stylist and totally made me feel at ease. She’s super talented and has a fun personality… I’ll definitely be passing on her information to all my friends. I’ve gotten lots of compliments on my new look and have already set up my next appointment. Thanks Kim for making me fabulous!

I sincerely enjoyed my visit to Festoon yesterday. Stephanie did a fantastic job on my hair! I really like it and will definitely be coming back to see her again. So far everyone I’ve seen at Festoon, whether it be in San Francisco or Berkeley, has been really friendly, professional and caring. I’ve always walked out of the salon feeling great.

I just thought I’d send a note to say what keeps me coming back to Festoon. Of course, the main reason is that I love how Susan Chek cuts my hair. But what else is important to me is that as soon as I walk up to the counter, someone looks up right away and smiles to say hi and welcome. I love that.
And your guy, Chris, on the phone ~ I’ve never met him but he says Hi Joan when I call, as if we’re old friends. I love that too!

True confession: I saw a crazy wonderful haircut in a sea of boring dos on Market in 1988 and followed that person for 2 blocks to find out where she got her haircut - Festoon, she confided in me. I’ve been a loving, loyal fan ever since. Daren, with his mack DADDY skills has taken me from rustic redhead to blond bombshell and now cool Grecian gray. If you want snippy attitude, don’t come here! This is a team of talented professionals who also happen to be sweet, sunny, and down to earth. After an appointment, I always depart the salon with swinging hair and soothed spirit. And, the bonus, I love the new Oribe line they are carrying.

I came in for my quarterly appointment with Breegan this past Saturday, and I must tell you I am IN LOVE with my haircut. Breegan helped me brainstorm a new look to take my longer layered cut to a springtime modified bob. It is seasonal and my curls look fresh and full. She is a PRO. That is why she has kept me as a loyal client for 3+ years now. My hat’s off to her (cause my hair is too cute to hide).

A good friend of mine always had really fun haircuts, so I finally asked her one day where she goes. She said “Go see Laurel at Festoon”. So, I made and appointment (by the way, Chris, who answers the phones also is fabulous!) and went to see Laurel almost the same week. Laurel immediately made me feel like we were old friends–she was friendly, welcoming and creative. My very first haircut with her was a success. I got a lot of compliments. And I’ve been going to see Laurel once every 6 weeks since.
In my experience with upscale salons, I was always treated politely, but like a customer. I would come to see my stylist, and she wouldn’t remember what we did last time. Laurel makes me feel like it’s more of a treat for me, than just an appointment. She remembers about the events in my life (”Make sure we get you in for a trim before your birthday in May!” or “How did that presentation at work go?”) as well as whether we’ve tried a certain haircut and how successful that try was. Sometimes I see a cut in the magazine and it’s not necessarily the best style for me. Laurel is very talented at finding a way around it– she’ll try to duplicate the cut, but maybe with a different texture or length to it, so it fits my lifestyle and personality best. She’s not afraid to suggest new things, and is always telling me about new products Festoon carries and different techniques of styling my hair at home to get the most out of my haircut.
I’ve recommended Laurel to numerous friends, relatives, and co-workers.

On Wednesday, I had the privilege of receiving service from one of you Junior Stylists, Kim, at the Berkeley Salon. From the moment I stepped into the Salon to the moment I walked out, Kim went above and beyond to make me feel at home and comfortable as a client.
Since I care a lot about my hair, I was nervous to try a Jr. Stylist at a new salon. But, Kim completely amazed me. She gave me beautiful lowlights and a stylish haircut. She told me I needed to get rid of about 2 inches of my hair (something I didn’t want to do) but in the end it was the right decision. My hair feels healthy and beautiful. When the “teacher” came by after Kim had finished cutting and coloring my hair, I told him I felt like a million dollars and that Kim had done an absolutely amazing job. I have never been this happy with my hair service, despite paying a lot of money at other pricey salons in Berkeley.
I am completely happy with Kim’s service and made an appointment to see her again. Knowing she is only a Jr. Stylist at your salon, I can only begin to imagine the talent and skill of your other stylists. I will be recommending Festoon to everyone I know. Kim is amazing, and I am an extremely happy first time client!

I did not intend to change stylists. I had a short notice job interview coming up and needed a haicut on that particular Sunday. By the way, I got the job. Both Rebecca and Samantha are excellent stylists, and now I will be torn to decide on either of them.
So far I have always loved my experience in your salon.

Having lived in LA for most of my adult life, I’m rather demanding when it comes to personal maintenance. I keep a rigorous schedule - hair tint every 4 weeks, cut every 6-8 weeks and a Japanese straightening every 6 months (or so…). We moved to Berkeley via Connecticut, and I was initially *very* apprehensive about having anything done in Berkeley. The place has a well-deserved reputation, after all. By the time I stumbled across Gail, my hair was dry and brittle from the botched Yuko I had received, and the color was…uneven…at best. I was a mess. Right from the beginning, I felt at ease. Festoon has that edgy feel that reminded me of LA. I’ve been going to Festoon for over almost two years now. Several times, I’ve had people express shock when I tell them I have a color appointment…they actually think all this is natural. To me, this is the ultimate compliment. I’ve also been able to observe their education program as a model. Never in my life would I have guessed that I have such a difficult haircut. Fascinating and impressive.

I’m new to Festoon. I came because my colorist sadly passed away. So I came to the salon with a heavy heart, but each time I’m there I feel better.
Everyone I encounter is so personable and cheerful. It’s not the usual salon experience, it feels homey and happy. Kudos to all whom make it that way.
I love the dogs, the nice atmosphere and of course I love Darren’s considerable talent. Yes I will recommend you, I already have.

I would like to bring to your attention how my last and all services at Festoon have been, well…wonderful ! My stylist is John Ryan, I hope that he is not planning on looking for work at some other establishment… In all seriousness, I have to say that I totally enjoy the vibe and all the happy beautiful smiling faces. I can’t point out any flaws at all.
